Dazatronyx class A Germanium Amp

The Germanium Amplifier is a vintage voiced boost that can smash your amplifier hard in the face. It is not intended souly as clean boost. Rather, it is voiced to be used with dirty channels to reshape your tone or add vintage-sounding sustain. This can be effective when used for lead-breaks to add gain or reshape the tone to break out of the live mix. Or just always leave it on! This can effectively add an extra high-gain channel switch to your amp, distortion or fuzz.

The germanium amplifier is constructed with a single 'tin can' PNP germanium transistor. The germanium transistor has a rich history in musical effects for its round and life-like sounding properties. Germanium transistors were used before the introduction of silicon and have become increasingly rare to find in acceptable condition with low leakage and suitable gain. I have been collecting germanium transistors in bulk supplies since I was in high school. For this circuit to work excellently, a great transistor from my collection of thousands is still very difficult and availability has always been tricky for me.

Each transistor is selected for over-all excellence and will always have its own sound. Each circuit is individually biased and tailored to suit the characters of the transistor and cannot be exactly standardized.

Please note: This is not a circuit for the hifi junkies! The output is setup hot and dirty and has its own levels of distortion and grit. Noise levels on germanium were far from perfect and they all flavour with their own voicing. This would be a booster best appreciated by fuzz players. If you are after a modern boost with a more precise output then please consider the Fetish Booster.

Full Cream: Add body and fatten your tone. Crank it all the way for a full cream boost.

Bright: A tweed-like boost that creates sparkling clean tones and bright leads. Tighten your high end for lead boosts that are high on the neck where you need extra definition. Use before distortions and fuzzes to create a more natural overdrive sound. Great to find a strat sound with humbucker pickups.

Mid: Effective at boosting your stage tone tone and cutting through a live mix without getting too woolly.
