MARCH 21st, 2003:
The rumors are true Suffocation has reformed and consist of the four founding members; Frank Mullen (vocals), Terrance Hobbs (guitar), Mike Smith (drums) and Josh Barohn (bass). Longtime friend Guy Marchais, formerly of Pyrexia and Internal Bleeding, will replace Doug Cerrito as 2nd Guitarist.
The band is currently in the studio creating and producing their long-awaited sixth release, and first in five years since their departure from the scene.

Suffocation is scheduled to perform at the 2003 New England Metalfest and headline this year´s Maryland Deathfest as their return to the underworld.

States drummer Mike Smith: "The much needed vacation Suffocation has taken over the years individually and as a whole only refueled the intensity we’ve grown to call our own. I truly feel for any who doubt our intentions."

MAY 22nd, 2003:
"After five years of pent up aggression, Suffocation played their first show in Worcester, MA on May 17. For those unfortunate few who could not make it to see Suffocation at the Fifth Annual New England Hardcore and Metal Festival, here is a little taste of what you missed out on.
Dominating the restless crowd with their sound, Suffocation proved without doubt they can still kick ass live. Not only did they deliver their classic, distinct and intense sound to us with early Suffocation songs - Infecting the Crypts and Effigy of the Forgotten, but also provided us with that powerful fierceness in a new song - Deceit.

Frank Mullen invited his daughter on stage to hand out stickers, and to experience first hand what it was her father was screaming about. Then ´daddy went back to work,´ and the crowd roared some more.

The intensity was unchanging. Frank mesmerized us with his clear and powerful growls that were both ominous and intimidating. Terrance reminded us why Suffocation remains unmatched musically playing his traditional, technical and sinuous riffs.

In the new song, Suffocation proved to us they are no joke with intense riffs, pounding beats, and ferocious growls. The interaction between Terrance and Guy was excellent. You got a good feeling for what Guy´s presence brought to the band and a pure reassurance about his musical abilities and technique. Josh completed the intricate sound with smooth and solid bass lines.

Death metal is back in its most original and brutal form. Mike Smith´s return was as if he never left, erasing all uncertainty of whether he was still true to form.

Due to insufficient time, the band´s set list was cut short. You could feel the fan´s appreciation for the re-energized band as they began to show their disappointment in the shortened set with chants "We want more! We want more!"

Suffocation created a compelling and invigorating vibe. It was unmistakable why this was the best New England Festival yet. They were very tight and incredibly convincing. Disappointed you weren´t there? Kicking your self in the ass? You should be! But don´t beat your self up too badly, because you will have the chance to see these guys again. So stayed informed by frequently visiting www.suffocation.us, and find out when they will be playing a show near you." © LDW
