ANOTHER SIX BANDS CONFIRMED FOR SWEDEN ROCK 2014

We are happy to announce another six bands that have confirmed their appearances at next year's Sweden Rock Festival.

70's hard rock icons Uriah Heep, epic opera metal collective Therion and the Dutch death metal veterans Asphyx will all play their only Swedish shows next summer at Sweden Rock. We can also reveal that British pomp rock kings and Sweden Rock favourites Magnum will close the opening ceremonies on Wednesday evening, June 4th. Classic heavy metal trio The Rods from New York will do their first Swedish show ever, and we are also happy to present Thundermother, who will release their debut album this autumn, but whose gritty rock'n'roll has already made them one of the most talked about new bands in Sweden at the moment.

Q5 TO SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL 2014!

Three Seattle bands debuted with heavy metal masterpieces in the early 80s. Queensrÿche, Metal Church – and Q5. The latter band's ”Steel the light” (1984) became an instant classic. The album is a stunning melting pot of uptempo metal riffs European style (Accept in particular), relentless AC/DC grooving and tints of evil glam, reminiscent of Quiet Riot and Helix. Sadly, Q5's sophomore effort ”When the mirror cracks” (1986) failed to build on the momentum, marking a shift to synthesizer-based AOR. After their demise, Q5 have gained cult status for generations of headbangers. To them, this reunion, especially for SRF and marking the band's first concert in Sweden ever, is a dream come true.

Sparzanza to Sweden Rock Festival 2014!

Swedish road warriors Sparzanza debuted in 2001 as part of the blossoming stoner movement from around the year 2000. Gradually, their sound got more metallic, parallel to the band getting more popular with both the public and critics. Today's Sparzanza is somewhat reminiscent of a death'n'roll era Entombed with a hint of the Gothic – hard, dark and groove-based. Their sixth and most recent album ”Death is certain, life is not” (2012) was a great chart success in Sweden, as was the single ”The fallen ones”. Following a tour in China (!), Sparzanza's seventh album is being recorded for a 2014 release.

Sólstafir confirmed!

Iceland's Sólstafir were formed as a black metal band in 1995. Gradually their sound evolved into something very special and tricky to define, to the audience as well as the band themselves. There is an undisputed ”heathen” element along with something equally futuristic – Cult Of Luna, Nachtmystium, Alice In Chains och Sigur Rós are all references chosen by reviewers. Sólstafir got their break with critics with their second album ”Masterpiece of bitterness” (1995). Their reputation grew even more with ”Köld (2009) and ”Svartir sandar” (2011). The latter was the band's biggest success so far, producing their domestic #1 hit ”Fjara”.

Horisont confirmed!

In recent years, vintage 70s' hard rock has gained many new followers in Sweden. Along with Witchcraft and Graveyard, Gothenburg's Horisont rank among the most prominent bands. The latter debuted in 2009 with ”Två sidor av horisonten” (Two sides of the horizon). Lately they have shifted into overdrive. ”Second assault” and ”Time warriors” arrived in 2012 and 2013, respectively, without sounding rushed or lacking inspiration. A trademark for Horisont is that their influences, in addition to tough 70s' rock, include classic AOR acts. This has been an important factor, not least for shaping Axel Söderberg's highly personal voice.

Crowbar to Sweden Rock Festival 2014

One of Rob Halford's and Phil Anselmo's favorite bands in the early 90s was Crowbar from New Orleans. In a time when extreme metal in general sped it up, Crowbar played it super slow and super heavy, with plenty of hardcore influences. Albums like Obedience through suffering” (1991), ”Crowbar” (1993) and ”Time heals nothing” (1995) are immortal pioneer releases in sludge metal, and an important influence to bands like Mastodon, High On Fire och Kylesa. Band leader Kirk Windstein (vocals, guitar) is also renowned from Down and Kingdom Of Sorrow. In 2014 Crowbar makes their SRF debut, which will also be their sole Swedish concert that season.

The Men They Couldn't Hang to Sweden Rock Festival 2014

The Men They Couldn't Hang, along with Billy Bragg and the Levellers, are the true pioneers of British folk punk. They debuted in 1985 and got attention for writing political lyrics on both the Napoleonic war, World War II and Margaret Thatcher. The band released five successful albums – ”Waiting for Bonaparte” (1988) is often singled out as the masterpiece – and then split up at the height of their popularity. In the 21st century they have made a serious comeback and continues to impress both their fans and the critics, not least with their most recent album "Devil on the wind".

In our preliminary running order, the 51 slots that are yet to be announced are for the following stages:

4Sound Stage (cap: 7 000 people): 12 acts (4 of which are for competition winners)

We are hard at work with the remaining bookings and hope to be able to present some great additions shortly.
